On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, it gives me great pleasure to commend Linda Bego as the twenty-fourth recipient of the Mrs. Grace Glenwood Higginson Lifetime Achievement Award.
This prestigious distinction recognizes Mrs. Bego and her matchless devotion of 11,800 hours of selfless assistance to Sailors, Marines, and their families. Since embarking on her volunteer career at NMCRS China Lake, California, in 2008, she has assumed responsibility for assignments representing all components of volunteer programming – Caseworker, Budget for Baby® Blanket Maker, Budget for Baby Instructor, Budget for Baby Junior Sea Bag Coordinator, Thrift Shop Lead, Team Support Contributor, and Chair of Volunteers. The force that bolsters Team China Lake, Mrs. Bego exudes a brilliant determination and gentle compassion to serve. Whether guiding a service member through the budget process, imparting sage financial management advice, or conducting a brief that shares the Society’s story, she makes an indelible difference in the lives of many. Mrs. Bego has recruited and mentored new volunteers, allotted time to encourage and motivate veteran volunteers, and in every instance accepted tasks and special projects with grace and good humor.
Throughout her tenure, she has remained true to her passion of helping clients in their greatest moments of need and proven herself the embodiment of the volunteer spirit. Routinely performing beyond articulated expectations and maintaining a record of noteworthy and enthusiastic service, she is undoubtedly one of the Society’s most treasured volunteers. It is in grateful acknowledgement of her unparalleled loyalty, extraordinary faithfulness, and astonishing allegiance to the men and women of the naval services that we honor Mrs. Bego with the Mrs. Grace Glenwood Higginson Lifetime Achievement Award.
